Emergency Management
On December 1st, 2022, a train derailment was approximately 1 km West of Macoun. The derailment created a dangerous situation when a few rail cars carrying dangerous explosives ignited. Four families and a daycare facility had to be evacuated for safety precautions. The local Macoun Co-op Manager and staff graciously remained open throughout the night to allow emergency personnel a warm, dry location to access fresh coffee, warm food, washroom facilities, and a fueling station for all vehicles and equipment.
Thank you to all the emergency personnel and community for the out pouring of support. No injuries were reported and everyone was able to return home.
